  • As an Asian, I was brought up with these same strict values, though I am not Chinese. And as I teacher in a public school, I do see the impact that these values had. Nowadays, American parents, too often, delude their children to thinking they are better than they really are, causing inflated egos, but when disappointment sets in, these American children blame others for their faults rather than looking in the mirror. There is nothing wrong with praising your child, but when you start praising your child too often for the things they are SUPPOSED TO DO, then it leaves no room for healthy competition along with a lack of quality in work, because, according to our praises, the bare minimum is just as good.
