Poe grew up in Richmond with his guardian, who was a very rich merchant. Their relationship was not bad until Poe went to college in the University of Virginia at Charlottesville. Poe gambled a lot just like other gentlemen, but he lost and was kicked out of school. It seems like this was the main reason why he broke up with his guardian. Then he married his cousin, Virginia (PS: she was in fact only 13-year-old at that time). (PS2: It becomes a symbol for rebelling kids to have affairs with their cousins.:)
