Eddy Grant原名Edmond Montague Grant，1948年出生于加勒比海地区的盖亚那，并在12岁那年随家人移居伦敦。他与生俱来的音乐天份，自青少年时期即开始绽放光芒，1965年自组了the Equals两年后获得唱片公司的合约，1968年的单曲”Baby Come Back”让他们一举登上英国流行榜冠军，值得一提的是1994年UB40主唱Pato Banton重新翻唱此曲，再度登上榜首的位置。1972年Eddy Grant由于心脏病发而离开the Equals,不过他并没有因此而消逝于歌坛，他建造了个人的录音室：Coach House，并成立自己的厂牌：Ice Records，发行了首张个人专辑「Message Man」直到1981年他又做了一个重大决定，他搬回到加勒比海地区的Barbados和家人同住，同时继续音乐创作，1982年发表的专辑「Killer On The Rampage」出现了多首成绩辉煌的单曲，包括先前提到的”Electric Avenue”及”I Dont Wanna Dance”、”Going For Broke”……

1985年，Police乐队解散后，Sting又组建的“Blue Turtles”在牙买加Eddy Grant的制作间（Blue Wave Studios）录制了他们的第一张专辑。此外，还有Elvis Costello、 Gabby、Square One在此录制唱片。

除了在流行音乐方面的成就，Eddy Grant并致力于西印度群岛Trinidad流传的Calypso传统音乐的搜集、创新和推广，加上他在REGGAE、DUB的创作，使他成为最受推崇的全能歌手制作人。

近几年，Eddy创造发展了一种混合类型的音乐，并命名为RINGBANG。他这样描述：
Ringbang is our culture
It’s what we speak, without language
It’s what we understand, without education
It’s the greatest awareness, that of ourselves
And through this philosophy, we will be able to stand strong culturally, in a hostile world.

2000年 11 月经由一位来自洛杉矶的 31 岁 DJ Peter Black 私底下重新将他的成名代表作 "Electric Avenue" 混音之后, 拿给好友 DJ Doc Martin 于伦敦 Fabric 舞池中播放, 没想到反应相当热烈, 进而引起 DJ Danny Tenaglia 等人的注意. 而真正让他声名大噪的是在2001年3月举行的迈阿密冬季音乐会中（WMC：Winter Music Conference）, DJ Static Revenger 连续不断地播放此曲的混音版, 已成为当地询问率最高的舞曲之一, 可说是继 Barry White 藉由 Black Legend 重新混音的 "You See The Trouble with Me" 及 Bob Marley 通过 Funkstar De Luxe 重新混音的 "Sun Is Shining" 之后,另一位同样经由 DJ 重新混音而再度走红的老牌艺人。
