My mistake on the 92 Buick. A friend used to have a 92 Mercury with all the LCD stuff. I remember her car got electric problems every other day.

Anyway, ignition problem as you described normally is caused by low battery voltage/current. You can next time try to connect another spare battery parallel to yur old one and start again, if the situation improves, then you need a new battery.

Back to your original question why Jetta is named Bora in Europe?

Jetta was first introduced in Europe, America as the extended version of Golf, the most successuful VW car. The second generation was later also introduced in later 80's in Changchun. People here in Europe never really associated Jetta with this modified Golf --- it is just another variant from Golf.

The third generation of this Golf variant was introduced in Europe with a new name Vento, while in the states, for the sake of marketing (since Golf is not so famous there), VW kept the name Jetta.

The fourth generation is now in Europe with another new name as Bora. Apparetly the name Vento didn't really pop up the sales in Europe.

China might be the only place on earth while you can sell different generations of a same car. Obviously VW Changchun doesn't want to reveal the whole truth about the relationship between Jetta and Bora, so two names are indeed quite helpful for them to continuely cheat the not-so-informative Chinese consumers.
