Softway is a middleware vendor which provides software platform to port
UNIX-based application to NT environment. They used to have a product line
called OpenNT which is built on the POSIX subsystem supported by NT.
Compared with other middlewares (like NutCracker) that basically implement an
extra layer to emulate the Win32 API, OpenNT rules as a seperate platform in which
the UNIX program can be recompiled and run on NT system.

Last year Softway got a valuable contract from US Air Force by teaming with Microsoft,
targeting on providing a deployable platform to convert UNIX-based application to
NT runnable. Later on Softway renamed their OpenNT product as Interix, trying to
be a bit off NT. I don't know they're purchased by Microsoft, but can imagine that's what
they've been dreaming for.
