"When using CPP2 or CPE-2, I got to pour in and out chamicals
manually, and wash films in another tank or place, right? So bacially
what the machine deos is just controlling water temperature and
consistant agitation, which seems quite different with that by hand. "

Yes that is true. But when you use a JOBO lift, the task is reduced to flipping a handle and pour in the next batch of chemical. No more funmbling of opening and closing a tank lid and the potential disaster of dropping your tank during the process.

You wash your film inside the same tank while the machine rotates it for you. You do need to change water every 30 sec or so as in other forms of processing. Only time you need to transfer the film to a different container is when you are done and ready to photo-flo BW or stabilize E6 or C41. You have to use a different container anyway, even with a conventional tank. Or you will risk your film reels with sticky gooes which will make future film loading a potential disaster (although I have had people told me they had no problem even doing that step in tank.. but hey... why take the chance).

"And I guss I should alter my developing time accordingly--making
sense? "

Yes and No. You will have to experiment this yourself. I use the recommended time for C41 and E6 from JOBO, a pretty standard time table that is. For BW, I pre-soak the film and use the original time I used to use wheh flip-flopping tanks. The fact that a JOBO use much less chemical prob offset the need to compensate for processing time. Most of my JOBO buddies found that is true. A word of suggestion: due to the extensive aggitation, the chemicals got oxidated far faster than hand flipping a tank. So do not reuse your chemicals. If you have to factor the cost in (sort like in my situation), reuse the chemical back ot back for no more than two runs is acceptable.

"There is a CPE-2 listed on Ebay which looks like a good deal, should
I go for it?
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?iewItem&item=507257229 "

SO FAR.. it is a good deal. But the price will prob surge at the last min or so. It has all the tanks you can use for the system for up to 6 rolls of films (you need to add to two 1501 reels since it comes only with 4). The magnets are useless since now it has a JOBO lift setup and use Cogs instead of magnets. Seems all three tanks have cogs installed already so you are set to go.

The three tanks: large one is for 1620 or four sheets of 810s. The mid one is a combined 1510 and 1530 which can handle 6 rolls or 135 or 120 or 3 rolls of 220. The small one is for 2 rolls of 135 or 120 or one roll of 220.

I would go prob up to 550USD given the condition and the tubes included. No more. there are plenty of JOBOs out there from people who are moving to the digital. So be patient.

Also bear in mind the setup DOES NOT allow you to use 3000 series expert drums. If you have any doubt that you may move up to 4x5 down the road. Check a CPP2 or CPA2 with LIFT.

Fun :))
